it was on the side of the path. I think it looks nice.

I don't know what it is but there are several on a plot near me.

Looks very like the Lovage we dug out yesterday.... does it smell... ?
Looks like the lovage in my garden
Agree on Lovage
great, I'll be swiping that off the path then.
Before you dig it up have a look here - it might just turn out to be to your taste:

Its a perennial so you could use it over several seasons.
Suggest you cut it back regularly and halve or even quarter the root ball every couple of years. Having started with something that size , this was my lovage in early May (i.e. still growing) two years later.

when I say 'swiping', I mean stealing for my plot. Not really stealing when its on a communal path.
That site info looks great, I'm off to dig it up now
yikes Barnowl i for some reason was deluding myself that i could get it to fit into my herb patch and see now that i'll have to find some where else for it,
hmmm, the search begins :-\
I also have some in a pot (in the garden at home) that seems to hold it back quite well. It doesn't get beyond a foot or so high, so I'd try planting it in a buried pot.

what size pot are you using barnowl?
It's a squareish one, about 9" square and 9" high. You can see it behind the spuds. Needs topping up because the soil level has dropped, but the Lovage is coming back anyway :).
thanks barnowl you have given me a solution :D.
