Title: Do Robins return to the same area to nest each year?
Post by: Sparkly on April 28, 2009, 20:12:22
For the last 4 or 5 years we have had robins nesting in our garden. Is it likely to be the same birds returning?

Highly unlikely, since they only live a year or so in the wild! They're highly territorial, but you've obviously got a population of robins, so any suitable territory is going to be occupied every year. If your garden offers the best nest sites in the territory, any bird holding the territory is likely to use it.

Robins this year  very friendly.  They have been coming within inches.  It has been so dry until last couple of days I think they are rather hungry.  They seem to be particularly interested in leatherjackets.  Great.

I don't know but we do have a male and female all the time.  We also have resident blackbirds which are my favourites.

When I put Nyger seeds in a feeder we always get Goldfinch but no one local sells them and I have not had some in the feeder for ages and the Goldfinch have gone now :(
I will have to buy a bigger supply from an Internet source.
