Title: Sprouts
Post by: grannyjanny on April 28, 2009, 12:52:36
Does anyone know how high Bosworth b/s grow. Does the cage need to be any higher than the final height of the plant. Will that be the tallest of the brassicas, will also be growing PSB.

Im sorry I havnt a clue how tall they grow but I would imagine your cage or netting or whatever you intend using, needs to be higher. The pigeons will sit on top and peck through otherwise.

We netted our sprouts generously last year to guard against the pigeons, but they have developed a technique of "dive bombing" the top of the netting to squash it down and peck the sprout tops.

They couldn't get at the sprouts themselves, but the tops were pecked away considerably.  We'll try to brace the netting better this year, but at this rate we'll need a mini fruit cage to give full protection!

I thought my netting was high enough until the snow settled on it! >:(
