Midland Road Allotment site Ellistown
The second Ellistown Seed & Seedling Swap is to be held on the Midland Road Allotment site 11-12 am Saturday 2nd May. The Seed Swap provides a chance for gardeners to exchange any surplus seeds or young plants that they might have. With the credit crunch biting hard this offers a means of saving a little money and avoiding wasting expensive seeds. Swapping, or buying, a few seeds will also give a chance to try growing different plants but without the cost of buying a whole packet of expensive seeds. All gardeners are welcome come and see what others have available, even if they have nothing to swap. Allotment plot holders from other villages are especially welcome.
This year it is hoped to offer the chance to buy sunflower plants ready to grow and to enter the Tallest Sunflower completion and pumpkin seeds for the biggest Halloween Pumpkin event.
Last year there were lots of different plants and seeds to choose from including Jerusalem artichokes. These artichokes, or farty-chokes as they are known for reasons that will become apparent after they have been eaten, are easily grown and can be roasted, made into a rosti, timbales or soup.
Advice will also be available from a Leicestershire Master Composter together with the latest offers on compost bins and food digesters. Light refreshments will be available and the morning.
The morning provides a great excuse to get together with fellow gardeners and see the allotments
The Seed and Seedling Swap is organised by EAGS, the Ellistown Allotment and Garden Society
Entry in the swap by £1 donation to EAGS. . Further details are available at www.eagsociety.co.cc
I'll try to get to this one, not so far from Burton!!
I'll try and get to this as well - sounds great.
Could we have a post code?
Found you on Google maps... just off J22 of the M1.. :)

:)
Lovely to meet you as well Levi, and all on Ellistown site. The date and walnut cake was lovely and I look forward to seeing how my new chilli and the pepper plants do.

Perhaps another time... or we could arrange something else involving cake?

Thanks to every one who attended and the kind comments. I cannot promise cakes at our scarecrow competition on 15th August but as the awards will be made in the local pub there will be draft beer! and the village has a gala day as well.
However the sunflower competition will give a chance for you and for your kids to make and show the best "sunflower hat" The only proviso is that it is worn by an under 12. For those that like their food this is being held at Sunnyside Garden Centre in Ibstock, Leicestershire and they do have a very good cafe (Daffodils) on the premises.
The Pumpkin day on 31 October will have competitions for the best pie, soup and preserve so will give growers a chance to have their own efforts judged together with the opportunity to enter you own carved pumpkin face. why not take a recipe from recipes 4 All and put it to the test!
As always these events are really only an excuse to chat will fellow allotment holders ( and get a few bob profit towards o composting toilet. Hope to see some of you on the day. More info at eagsociety.co.cc
