Title: Picking Rhubarb
Post by: samela on April 24, 2009, 14:36:31
Hi All,

Dumb question I know, but how do I know when my Rhubarb is ready for picking? I've never grown it before so have no idea at all.

Thanks

I love rhubarb covered in a little apple juice and then 3 mintues in the microwave.  Lovely with plain yoghurt.   I think I will have some right now.

rhubarb lovers try baking it.
Wash and dry stalks, cut into 2" lenghts.
Lay in ovenproof dish and sprinkle over 3tbs soft brown sugar.
Trickle a little water over the rhubarb and bake for 30 to 40 minutes according to softness required.
Gas mark 4.
we let ours go cold and eat with creme frais.....It's great.

I just pick until i have about half the leaves and then leave it to recover its bulk again.

My favorate is rhubarb sorbet, chop thinly add same weight of sugar a drop of vanilla and boil for ten mins mash then freeze. Yum! you can add rasps, orange, strawbs practically anything.

ps, boil leaves for 10 mins to, then strain and use as an organic insecticide - it really works!
