Not having a steady supply of twiggy branches or anything I made do last year with some chicken wire supported by a couple of bits of wood to support my sugar snap and mange tout...
This year I'm sowing a larger number of both as well as some main crop peas and I'm wondering what other people use for support. I've been told they don't grow up canes like beans so my chicken wire thing last year seems sensible to a point. But then I know main crop peas can grow tall and I don't really want a 6 foot wall of chicken wire so I'm thinking of using some kind of netting covering a row of runner bean style canes... ?
What do the rest of you do?
I and alot on our site use this,as our main crop pea last and this year Kelvedon Wonder didn't grow much higher

I like wigwams for tall peas, easy to pick! I use string wrapped around canes to give the peas something to cling to, easy to pull off and compost at the end of the season.
I'm using posh purple twine this year ::), it has faded in the rain already to a very fetching mauve........will go well with the purple podded peas!

I use chicken wire every year for all my peas, does the job.
The mange tout we grow get to 5 ft or more so we put 2 posts up and 2 lengths of 50m wire netting up one above the other. We have to keep them covered with soft net all the time cos we have hundreds and hundreds of pigeons.
