Title: Spider ID please
Post by: Georgie on April 20, 2009, 17:47:59
I saw this gorgeous spider sunning itself on an Allium leaf today.  I'd say the abdomen was about 2cm long if this helps.  I've never seen one quite like it before.  Any idea what it is please?

Looks like a grass spider to me. :)

Nope they are too small - just read your size

Could be a nursery web spider.

Have a look here: http://greatbritishspiders.tripod.com/index.html

Hmmm thanks.  So many aren't there?  I think it might be a nursery web spider but I'm not entirely certain.  If I don't get any other suggestions I'll post a picture on my blog so that people can see it in close up which I can't do here.

Baaaaaaaa, can you tell us the size of it? It'll help confirm the ID but I am pretty sure it is Gigantus Smilus Electronicus, but I could be wrong.

It could be.

All I know is its one of those rare seven legged species.

So rare infact that a few months ago someone tried to sell one for $233.95
