This is growing in the middle of my allotment, and it looks a lot different the other weeds.

It's not rhubarb, is it?
It ain't rhubarb
Definitely not rhubarb ;D, could be a stray parsnip though!
It certainly doesn't look like any of the rhubarb growing around our lotties,
but I'm certainly no expert. So will leave for someone who knows what they're talking about to answer... :)
Feral parsnip looks like the best bet, not feathery enough for a carrot or any of the parsleys except flat, and itr isn't flat parsley, ditto the other way for horseradish ...... but there are a few weeds that look pretty similar :D
chrisc
looks like my parsnips ;D
curiosity would get the better of me. ::) ::)
JUST DIG IT UP!!!!!
looks like a parsnip....pull a bit of soil away from around the top and have a look, soon c if it is one ;D
Lovage is similar.... OH has just gone up the garden to check... :-\
Parsnips have their own smell, and the leaves are hairy, irritating to some.
Lovage leaves smell like celery/aniseed when you break the small stems holding the leaflets and are smooth, no hairs...
Being on it's own I'd think Lovage as feral Parsnips tend to come up in rows...
where they missed being dug out...
i'd agree with saddad, my loveage is about that tall but the smell will tell you. Lovage has a really strong smell they say the romans used to put it in their shoes to make them smell nice ;D but its also nice in salads but only alittle ;D
if not loveage could it be angelica? i seem to think it's leaves are similar.
I don't think its lovage, the new growth in the centre is usually pink and the leaves are more lobed and ragged. I also think its a parsnip! ;D
It's not lovage - lovage doesn't have opposing pairs of leaves and the leaves themselves are more ragged
I'd say parsnip, but dig it up and see. If you leave it, it grown into a tall umbellifer, and the bees love it for the pollen.
Deffo a parsnip resprouting. ;D ;D ;D
PARSNIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
;D
Thanks a lot. I'm going to dig it up tomorrow.
If it is a parsnip, would it be safe to eat?
Yes, shouldn't even be too tough in the middle, not having formed a flower stem yet... :)
OK the suspense is killing me ,what was it :)
Well???.....................
Did yer enjoy yer parsnip then 8) ;D
did you find out what it was?
I was weeding around the edge of the onion/carrot patch and pulled up something that looked the same as the picture in this thread, there are loads growing. It had the same shape as a carrot/parsnip and smelt a bit like a carrot but was white in colour.
Do parsnip smell a bit like carrots (sweet)?
