I found this on my cherry tree and wondered what kind of moth(if it's a moth) it is?

It's a bee fly.
Thank you, I spent hours last night looking at loads of moths :(
Are they good or bad for the plot?
I have just read the adults feed on nector but how about the larva?
Neil
I had one of these on my plot last year, they are pretty little things
unfortunately the larvae live as parasites in solitary bees nests so killing the hosts :(/shades x
i have seen these too for the first time this year there seems to be quite a lot of them around here. i thought they were a hover fly now i know better, tah.
Thanks for the info.
Neil
If you want to keep an eye out for different things what better way than UK Safari.
You can look up all sorts of things and it keeps the kids happy too.
