Title: Redcurrants
Post by: Borlotti on April 13, 2009, 09:59:19
This will probably sound a silly question to some of you but my redcurrants are doing really well and starting to form tiny berries.  I am assuming that they will be safe from birds until they go red, which I know will be a long time yet.  Should I net them now or wait.  Blackcurrants seem to be OK without netting as the birds don't seem to go for those.

Mine are okay until they start to turn - & as you know, the blackbirds are telepathic and can tell the day before you're going to pick them & do it for you! 'Round here the squirrels take green fruit & bury it though.. and break the branches in the process  >:(

They taste good to the birds before they get to the point where they taste good to us. You will probably need to net eventually, but not yet.

Mine are not in flower yet, they are just about getting the leaves. The blackberries are in flower and the goosgogs but not the red currant
