My father grew dried peas in the late 1930's and all during the war. I think the original seed were "Larkspur" Dried Peas, bought from the village shop and in a cardboard box with block of Sodium Bi-Carbonate. He also grew dried Haricot beans as well from the same source. During the War we were given some bean seed which were like Haricot beans but had a black skin with a white eye (came from the USA). We grew these but the resulting beans were Khaki striped, they must have got cross pollenated. They served us well when food was rationed.

Not tried it but it sounds a bit like trying to grow a carrot from a piece of pot noodle. Thought Batchelors peas died in 1976 and were reconstituted from powder. Didnt realise there was anything alive in there!

you do have to be careful when sowing Pot Noodle - very easy to cross pollinate between spicy barbeque and curry and the result is not nice!    ;D

Haven't grown Batchelors dried peas but grew some 'Carlin dried peas' last year, sowed rather late but they grew and flowered - very pretty flowers pink/purple but it was too late for a crop.   Trying again this year, they've germinated well.
