Title: STRAWBERRY QUESTION!!
Post by: Duke Ellington on April 10, 2009, 19:47:21
This is my second season on the allotment and have just noticed the first flowers appear on my strawberries. Is there anything apart from strawberry mats or straw that I can use inbetween the strawberry plants to protect them from slug damage?

Duke :)

the straw or the mats is only to keep the fruit off of the ground, and to avoid soil contamination of the fruit. this does not protect from slug damage! ;)

In fact, slugs love matting and straw, it is damp and gives them somewhere cosy to hide and make love.
