Title: Dead Applemac
Post by: Doris_Pinks on April 09, 2009, 09:21:51
Daughter who has wanted an apple for years, has been given a powerbook(about 6 years old) by a friend who was given it by her brother months ago, and has never even opened it! (Daughter thinks this is sacriledge! ;D)

It is however dead as a dodo..............have tried charging overnight, nothing, pushed the reset...nothing.............is it probable that the batteries are beyond saving as it hasn't been used in yonks, or is there something else we could try?

She could really do with this as she is doing computer animation at uni, so the graphics applications would be good! But on the other hand, if it isn't going to be any good to her, we don't want to be spending out £50+ on a computer she wont use, or that it isn't the battery, and is something else!

Any ideas anyone,

Thanks

Quick one, try removing the battery and running it directly off the powerlead. If the battery is FUBAR this may work, did on my HP until I repalced the battery....

Unfortunately a 6 year old laptop is a dinosaur in computer terms. It is going to be very slow (we have some Macs that age at work) and I very much doubt would run any current graphics programs. I personally wouldnt spend any money on it, as even it if it was working it would only be suitable for word processing, email and internet.

I was thinking that would be the case!
