Title: Slips. How big?
Post by: grannyjanny on April 09, 2009, 07:19:50
How big do potato slips need to be before they are taken off & planted in pots. I have one about 2" long & three about one inch. Should I take them off or leave them to get bigger.

You can leave them and let nature take care of it, bunging soil on top during planting will almost certainly knock off any frail shoots.

Spuds are hardy, their biggest enemy is wet-- -soil rotting them before they grow -slugs eating them as they grows -blight killing them when they is growed.

I have already potted my slips this year, 2 months earlier than last year and they have all rooted.
