Title: Don't try this at home!
Post by: Georgie on April 06, 2009, 23:04:34
I grow my seeds on the kitchen windowsill covered in plastic bags and sealed with a rubber band.  This year to stop the plastic bags going 'floppy' I thought I'd hit on an ingenious idea of inserting two bamboo skewers (the type used for kebabs) into each pot.  Within days they have all gone mouldy!  They have been replaced with a hoop of plastic covered wire.   ;D

There was a lady on GW years ago & she used to blow the plastic bag up with a straw to keep thplastic away from the plants.

Plastic straws would also give a little support instead of kebab sticks but the blowing method sounds simple and probably effective.

Strips of clear plastic bottle slipped down the sides of the pots between the pot and compost.

Cutting strips is a good wet day activity.

One thing that never fails to amaze me on A4A is the fact that we can discuss for ages the way to do something better....then bam! someone comes up with a simple method that would be hard to beat.
Apart from the shape, 'The Master' has come up with something as close to a pro bit of kit you could think of. Nice one.
(It would also have it's own built in air cap to release humidity?)
