The days of plots changing hands for money have long gone in today's climate of growing your own. You will probably just have to get on a waiting list like thousands of others around the country. Alternatively what about container growing for now, till you make the top of a waiting list.... could be a while. (There is a 3-4 year wait on our site at present.)

I would also recommend trying for one outside your local area, mine (hopefully mine lol) is in a different town to where i live but luckily only one bus ride away.
