I had the pleasure of travailing a few miles up the A38 yesterday to Saddads allotment site up in Derby and was very impressed by the layout there, if you have the chance go and have a look round ( if permission is given ) it is well worth it just to see the hedge laying and THE SHED. ;)
Wot no pics? :(
wished i had taken camera if only for the views from the allotment site or the fox walking on ahead of us with not a care in the world
Was it an open day?? Have I missed it?? I've been a couple of times and it must be the NICEST site ever!
No, It was a private showing... open days first Sundays in June and September, 11-5pm NGS £3. Advert to follow, but I'm going for a walk around before dark, as it backs on to the house.. ;D
See what you are missing....... ;D ;D ;D You'll have to come and visit to see it all........ ;D ;D ;D

When is the open day?
An amazing looking site, where is it?
The site in near Derby City Centre, and we have two open Days under the NGS Open Gardens Charity scheme. They are always the first Sunday in June and September every year, so this year it's June 7th and September 6th.
We also do 'ad hoc' visits under the same scheme, hence Richards visit the other day. If anyone wants to visit outside of the Open Days just pm either Saddad or me and we can sort something out for you! The main advantages of attending the Open Days is that we have a plant sale which is where we make most of our money for our Allotment Association, plus we do a mean tea tent, with the aforementioned locally made veggy samosas always going down well! ;D
just an idea
has any one got there allotment site into
http://www.ngs.org.uk/
;D
tell you what would be a realy good thing ,
we all as allotment owners could come up with somthing like a green book , i would realy like the idea of peeps looking over my lotty and also looking on other peeps plots
What do the NGS expect of an alloment site before it gets a place on the scheme? That one looks unbelievably neat if the pics are anything to go by!
I am speechless and green with envy. I think we will have to have a different name for Saddads allotment as it is nothing like my overgrown wilderness, where some of mine is a nature garden (ie weeds and grass). Could his be a 'posh plot' or 'super allotment'. I will not look at the pictures anymore or will get depressed. I could happily live in that lovely shed.

I don't know what the criteria is for getting in the NGS scheme, I sure Saddad will fill us in when he is back for his Ireland jaunt! ;D
The plots are all very different, and most are far from pristine I can assure you, as the person who does the plot assessments! We have been gradually (very gradually) turning uncultivated plots over to new plot holders in the past two years, but some like my OH and son's plot they have had since November were a bramble wilderness and are still being cleared. One of the reasons I like our site so much is that there are such a variety of types of plots, styles of planting and cultivation. But it is far from perfect, honest! ;D

yep, realy looking forward to it

I'd be grateful for any info, as I'd be interested in trying to get my site on the list. Everyone would support the idea to some extent, but if we tried to give the place a makeover, we'd be very properly ignored!
Well Saddad Tone and I might just be coming. You will have to remind us nearer the day cos as ya know we are gettin on and tend to forget. Might get some others from Court Lane to come as well
scared to say we're coming ;D
do ya sell welsh onions, are they like thick chives ?
We don't officially sell Welsh Onions manics... but I could always dig some up for you.... ;D
ta, matey, keeping stuff crossed for june ;D
(scared to say we're coming)quote manics
Will be so nice to meet you Manics but you must promise to behave cos it looks like a real posh site
Not a posh site... a couple of our members have delusions of adequacy.... :-X
I promise, shirley, won't even put my smarties wellies on ;D
Only Smarties have the answer..... to that one..... :-*
If everones going Corny might have to make an effort, someone did say it was fancy dress didn't they. :P ;D ;D ;D
Maybe all of us who are going should arrange to meet at the samosa.....oop's sorry ;D,I mean tea tent at a certain time and introduce ourselves?
You'll easily recognise Kev cos he will have his striped boxers on with bum out
Crikey! :o ;D ;D ;D/ shades x
i think i might be a little shy for that
lbb
wow thats a fantastic looking allotment ;D
Thanks folks... fancy dress is optional... the tea tent is right by the plant stall so it's just a matter of priorities... :)

Dont you worry lbb,we wont eat you.....we will be too busy with the samosas, well i will be ;D
Do you think anyone would be offended Saddad if I walked around your site with my arse hanging out of my stripeys, if so I could always hide out in Debs log cabin, I hope theres a fridge with a few cans in it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :P :-*
We have a fridge in the site office, and in our outside shed... Deb hasn't as far as I know, but she could be hiding things in that shed.....
;D ;D ;D
bump.... getting older by the minute... it's five o'clock somewhere..... ;D
