they plan to double the rent....BA****DS
That really isn't right. Have had a few dealings with the local council, always the same attitude. :-X
Don't you just love 'em... If I tried to double the rent in one go I'd be out on my ear... I have managed it... tokk three years (small stages!!!!) ;D
What does everyone paid? I think i am in the higher rent area, £83 with the water charge last year.
Think there's a whole thread on rent levels somewhere, Twoflower. Ours went up to 20 quid this year.
We pay £20... 300sq yds Water included. Was only £10. It will go up to £24 in Oct and my target is £30... (I'm treasurer!!) ;D
£83 sorry it would be Tescos for me, from what I can gather the latest thing seems to be to up the rent when water is supplied and according to the media we are in for a dry spell this year , I was watching the programme on telly which is the one about the best allotment site in the country every allotment on this particular site had a blue water butt and the consensus from the presenters was water butts it is, :)
Anyone could see this coming, allotments become trendy, more demand, rent goes up. Is there anyway you could fight this JTW. Get some legal advice if you can.
thats a shock, double in one fell swoop!good luck with sorting this out,are you all joining together to do summat?
we pay around 40 quid a year, depending on how big the plot is.i often wonder how much i would pay up to...seems priceless really?
83 quid seems a bit steep!
I haven't a choice really they are all that. The council isn't really interested in allotments and over the last couple of years has set about selling them off. They tried it with my site, cut it in half and was planning on student flats but the environment agency said no. Now they are trying it by the back door. :-\ I have heard of these sites where you only paid £20 or £30 pounds but don't believe in them, i am too old!
I pay £9 for mine and the site has water, society hut and toilet. :P
Oh now i am really green :'(
I pay £16 for half a plot which is quite big enough for me, with running water and access to community orchard, in which it it rumoured there is a compost(ing) toilet although I haven't resorted to that yet. About 5 years ago we became a self running association leasing the sites from the council, so as members we set the rent, etc. The council like it because they don't have to run it, and we like it because they don't
i've just paid 18 quid for half plot and we have water and toilet and trading hut.were in the process of getting a new disabled raised gardening area complete with toilet block and meeting room!
On our site the average size of a plot is about 40 metres by 10 metres. They range in price from 15 to twenty quid per year. Theres no water on the site, and we are left to get on with it. Bliss!. As has been said, i'm not sure what the cut off point for me money wise would be. ???
£18 inc water and Nsalg dues (10 rod) ;)
Welcome to the site Digging.... ;D
We throw in the £2 for NSALG subs as well
I paid £26 this year for a 10 pole plot (over-60s rate - the standard rate is £40 - everything included). This is less than last year because we had an unexpected surplus through paying less to the Council than we'd expected. We have running water, have just installed composting toilets at either end of the site and have rebuilt the trading shed using some of our surplus funds. ;D

No i have to pay this as well! I think talking to some of the older residents the council got away with alot because the site about 4 years ago dropped out of the union. The rents went up by about £50 in one year, the lession stick together and fight. We now have a lovely community and a good allotment management team. :)
