Title: runner beans, to move or not to move
Post by: aebal on April 02, 2009, 08:27:38
Goodmorning
I have a natural position for my runner beans. I have grown them in the same position for the last two years trenching and filling in the winter. My mother had her runners in the same place, in her small garden, for many years. But what sort of trouble am I heading for

the main thing with runners they dont like is strong wind so if you can protect them with either cling fil around the canes in order for them to establish themselves .

i wont be putting runners in yet there is plenty of time for them and there one of the easiest veg is to grow

Some people do keep growing runners in a favoured "trench" for years. Personally I rotate mine with the rest of the legumes. They don't seem too prone to pest and disease build up or people wouldn't get away with growing them in the same place again and again..  :-\

The pests and diseases were left behind in the Americas when they were originally imported. I've a feeling that there is something obscure they can get, but a lot of people keep them in permanent positions without trouble.

The only thing I know of is the green shield bug and that is airborne and mobile.
