Does anyone think like me, that transplanting is traumatic for seedlings?
I've read with interest about sowing (for example) parsnips in loo rolls, and I think that inspired me! Here in Denmark, our milk comes in "tetrapak" cartons, and it occurred to me I could cut them up to plant in. The good news is, it works a treat!
When I cut the cartons up, I get a top bit with no bottom in it, and the bottom piece like a plant pot. It doesn't matter which half I use, I just stuff them with seaweed and compost, and when it comes to sowing out, the carton just slips off. I end up with a nice big plug full of roots.
This photo shows some feverfew seedlings which will have to be thinned in any case, but in principle, milk cartons will be ideal for parsnips, cabbages etc.

I think that looks great. I am going to save my orange juice cartons and do the same. Saves washing pots every year.
I hadn't thought of cutting them in two, i only cut the top off. I used them last year to sow beans and sunflowers in and they work great the sunflowers where the biggest i've ever grown :)
