???Hello all you experienced lotties ,I`ve finally managed to register, after many attempts. Anyway I`m the proud owner of a blank canvas(45"x45")I have a fork, spade, flask, energy, some time, not much patience and loads and loads of questions. First one is is there anything else i can do between now and feb04 apart from digging ?
Hiya Zippy, I aquired an allotment last September and can't wait to get started. I've managed to get most of it cleared and today I've been to plant a couple of fruit trees. Other than that I've been planning my plot and browsing the seed catalogues. Good Luck.
Hiya Zippy and welcome. Dig when the ground isn't waterlogged otherwise you will mess up the texture..(can you call it texture) of the earth. Other than that.....trying to think what I have been up to....collecting leaves and bagging up for leaf mulch....trying to acquire a shed - still trying....planted some rhubarb - many thanks Teresa... and planning I guess. Not long 'til spring and we are off! Hoorah!! ;D
hello zippy, how about sorting out a compost bin or two - pallets seem to be the fave materials. Also, you could think about the possibilityof settingup a coldframe. Otherwise, digging is king really - i have one of these burn dustbin thingies and try to loght a fire when i am down at the lottie now - three glorious hours today!!) as i always feel warmer and more excitable- and there is usually lots of stuff to burn on empty sites - but please be careful of burning nasties such as plastic.
Anyway, enjoy your plot!

welcome Zippy, digging is top of my to do list at the mo.that and clearing out 10 tons of rubble left very kindly by a previous allotmenteer ;D, now I know why the area I am finally getting around to tackling had been left to go to brambles and stinging nettles! Will then be covering this area with well rooted manure,so should keep me busy for a while, can also be found browsing through catalogues, and ordering far too many seeds!!
Doris,
I am very worried about your well rooted manure, surely this will make it difficult to move?! :D
Hehehe I wish I had some manure, whether it was rooted or rotted, all I have is a bit of compost (nice stuff though)
I tried to go digging yesterday but the plot was like a swamp and I didn't want to ruin it... crossing my fingers that it's going to be fine weather over Xmas as I have got a lot to dig through!

I only got my allotment last week too. Went down on the weekend and started by clearing the shed. Put a water but on the plot cos all the water gets turned off in the winter on our lotties.
Ten, opps!! You can tell I just post away without checking!! I really need to get up my lottie, but what with the Christmas preparations under way............mind you it is a beautiful day out there today, I might just say to hell with the mince pies and go anyhow! DP
I'm at work... wish I could go to the lottie... here's hoping for a clear weekend
