Which potato varieties will you be growing this season?
Various! What about you TGG?
sorry flighty i have never heard of the potato variety Various!what interesting qualities does it have?
Swift - already in
Blue Edzell - chitting well but not dug the trench yet
Pink fir apple - " "
Sarpo Mira - " "
Havent got a clue about potatoes, picked these ones to get a variety and they claimed to be more disease resistant. Read recently that Sarpo Mira are supposed to be pretty tasteless though!
Which would you recommend for taste?
2 Rows Pentland Javaline
10 Rows Cara
Lady Balfour and International Kidney

A plot-neighbour introduced me to Anya last year and they were very very nice so I'm growing them this year.
Mayan Gold, bought some to eat from Sainsburys and was very impressed so I'm trying those for the first time.
Vivaldi, grew them last year and was very pleased with them.

new to potato growing so trying to find what we like!
I don't have room for all the varieties I'd like to grow. I'm growing just a few each of :
Riviera (large uniform, ok for bake and salad)
Annabelle (Nicola / Mona Lisa cross) - early salad
Anya (Pink Fir cross) - nutty salad, will chip/roast
Charlotte - highyield waxy salad
Vivaldi - all rounder
Nicola Salad (similar to Belle /Charlotte) - plant close
Lady Balfour - Dry /masher
Salad Blue - (high dry matter so actually good for roasting)
Majestic - 'old style' , stores well
Pink Fir
Favourites I'm giving a year off are:
International Kidney, Belle de Fontenay, Maya Gold and Rooster
And i thought i had alot of differant potatoes,am growing :- rocket, charlotte, pink fir apple, kestrel, arran pilot, desiree, king edward and free pixie. can anyone tell me whta pixie are as is didn't say on the advert if they are early/ late potatoes?
Pixie are a 2nd Early (per Alan Romans)
Envy here! The only named variety I can get over here is Red Pontiac, they do grow well for us! Mental note.......next time on UK bring back seed potatoes!
A bit too dry for spuds? Perhaps you could try planting earlies really early? :)
wow - i feel very pathetic now with my Pentland Javelin! I missed the boat and did not get any in time for chitting so just doing the one sort. As I am in process of completely 'remodelling' the lottie I have not got much space ready for lots either.
Don't worry about chitting; I stopped doing it several years ago and haven't noticed any difference.
