not exactly being an "expert gardener" although i do thoroughly enjoy it i decided to buy some raspberry canes for the allotment , as the little girl loves them . so went on the the web and decided on using what i thought to be one of the best or at least the biggest and hopefully most reliable companies . choosing not the cheapest but hopefully best quality deal i placed an order with the above mentioned company .now nearly 2 months later I'm still awaiting delivery ,so i phone up and enquire "there currently on there way to you sir " i was assured the reason they have took so long is because "we hold them back until conditions are right " . very thoughtful of them i think but surely the best conditions for planting raspberry canes has passed !!! don't think i will be using them again , or am i over reacting ...n8r :(
Have you ordered summer or autumn fruiting ones. Don't think it is to late yet, buds are only just starting to appear on mine. As soon as they arrive get them in the ground, there is plenty of time yet.
Make sure the ground is ready for them now, so all you have to do is put them in. When they arrive, soak them for a couple of hours in a miracle-grow or similar mixture before planting. :) :) :)
Ordered mine from Marshalls, arrived 2 weeks ago and put straight in. Their info also stated wouldn't be sent out until ready to go in the ground. Had 3 different sorts, earlies, summer and autumn, noticed today that 2 have started budding but other looks as dead as a dodo, hoping that they are the autumn ones.
Lidl, Aldi, Netto B & M and many other stores have loads.
Do not believe that the more you pay the better you get with gardening. It aint true.
I bought mine five years ago from Marshalls - three lots of 12. Two lots grew beautifully, and are still producing like crazy. Not one of the 3rd lot came up at all. When I dug the roots up there were as dead as dodos.
I contacted Marshalls, and I managed to persuade them to replace them with 12 of the long cane ones (which would normally cost double) - which meant I didn't lose any growing time with the duff crop.
the order was for there full season collection, Glen Ample glen Moy and Autumn Bliss . i believe the two glens to be early and the autumn bliss to obviously be a late variety am i right ? how do i prepare the ground ? plenty of muck i presume i have already marked out the areas they will go thanks for all replies ....n8r ;)
plenty of muck and plant them quite shallow
and place the Thompson & Morgan catalogue in the bottom of the trench before adding the muck.
Best place for it IMHO
I made the same mistake with a whitecurrant, ordered from T&M in feb, recieved 2 days ago..just as well it's been chilly, settle it in
I really should learn :)
