How long does it stay in its 4 inch pot? when does it need replanting into something biggerand whats the next size up? I'm giving one to my nan for her birthday and want to get something a bit nicer to put it in so not sure what to!

My chillies go into florist's buckets next. You might want something a bit more decorative... :-\

I'm thinking she will put it on the window sill in the kitchen so will go for something decorative. Am i right in thinking that it will grow as big as its pot will allow? Or have i made this up  :-[

Where abouts in derby are you saddad my OH is from up that way  ;D

As I said, if I was growing it for cayenne, not just display a 10" pot or florists bucket would be best...  :)

I grew them last year in 2ltr and 3ltr pots with success but think they could do with a bit more room. The biggest problem is the speed that they dry out.

Re-pot them several times as required during growth otherwise you will have your staging full of large pots with small plants in, and no space for seed trays.

Cayenne can be pretty vigourous, if you want a lot of chillis then a 10" is sensible and expect to be watering pretty much every day and tomato food one a week.... lots of fruit though.... If you want it as a house plant then I reckon a 6" pot and expect to water morning and evening (feed at half strength twice a week)... They're quite attractive plants in their first year, but a bit like all chillis are rather brutish in the subsequent years...
