This was given a heavy prune last year and seems all the better for it.

Was that a winter prune? It looks as though it's grown like mad last year, and it's now flowering on the one-year-old wood.

I think it was not long after it flowered last year so more like April/May, but yes the flowering is on new wood.

Really cheers me when I suddenly spot a tree starting to bloom with blossom :)  The trees outside of work here (I work just next to a part of Epping forest) have just started to bloom.  Such a nice view.
