Anyone else on a Council site and know when the water is put on. Think it is 1 April, everyone is moaning to me about no water, and I am not even Lottie Secretary. Told them to ring Council.
I looked into this last year with our local council and in our case it normally goes on at the end of March :)
Think it was unusually hot and dry last week, but it has rained in the night and has got a lot colder in north London. We have a lot of new people on the allotment so they want water and one mans pond got a bit low in water. Normally find it no problem but had unusual weather conditions this year.
Ours went on last week, and it's sooo nice to use the tap again!
We are private, but keep one tap on (restricted hours) over winter, by the toilet block... the rest come on with BST... so this weekend... :)
I'm on a council site- we have water all year round- but only becausewe all have water butts, no mains! ;D
Ours comes on in April... I'm thinking it's the 1st but that may just be wishful thinking... ;)
Ours is never switched off!!
I guess because the council don't know where the stop tap is. ;D ;D
Hi Borlotti, ours is always on, but like Caroline we have water butts/troughs, so being in the same borough it sounds a bit strange, I will have to come and look at your site one day. ;D ;D ;D
We manage ours; it goes on at Easter. One year we had a new committee and they forgot to turn it off. The result was sprays of icicles, it was quite spectacular.

we must be the only council owned lotties without water.
in south yorks.
Or are we ?
That's one of the many advantages of being on a non-Council site.
Our water is normally turned off over-winter, but if anyone asks I turn it on, just for a couple of hours if necessary. (We don't have standpipes, but water-butts by most plots, operated by a ball-thingy.)
In early March we have a trial run, where we turn on the water and go round the site looking for leaks. Then the water goes on according to the weather, but on a timer so that it goes off at night, just in case of accidents or vandalism. We can also shut off different parts of the site in case some idiot puts their fork through the pipe!
