I have been fortunate and have aquired a little more ground for growing some more vegetables.
I have decided to grow
Butternut
jack o lantern
Rolet
sweet dumpling
table queen
turks turban
Having never grown squashes before, anybody any idea how many squash each plant will produce given reasonable growing conditions?, with plenty of manure/compost--south facing.
Just trying to work out how many plants of each type to grow. :-*
I'm no expert, but I would say you only want a couple of each plant. The squash I grew last year produced about 5 fruits per plant.
When I grew mine last year for the first time, I got 6 fruit. They were of varying sizes, but all not a bad size. I imagine you don't want too many fruit on a plant so that all the energy goes into the ones that you do have to make them bigger. I'm guessing.
Many thanks for both replies.
Looking at it logically
5/6 squash per plant x 6 different plants x2= 60 squash= probably more than enough for the winter :)
Better get them in the propagator with the crystal apple ;D
I can imagine you eating lots of butternut squash soup for at least a year ha ha :-X
