The other day this bird landed on the bird table which is a large tray on a patio table.
Either a sparrow hawk or kestral (dont know the difference) But such a surprise to see it eating the seed which is always there then he flew off and landed on the fence and looked at me.
First time in years I was speachless. I have had them fly through the garden after little birds but have not had one on the table.
Has anyone else had this happen to them.
Obviously a gowpit bird! :P We sometimes have a sparrowhawk in our garden. We easily know it is there, as all the little birds scream their head off when they see it! Maybe it was a silly young bird that didn't know what to eat! Mum had a young blackbird in her garden today (almost full size, but still spotty feathers) and she tossed it a wee worm as she was digging. To her amazement the silly creature just hopped round and round the worm, peering closely at it, then eventually hopping off! ??? It then chased a peacock butterfly all round the garden, without ever catching it!
I was wondering if it was a vedgetarian hee hee and not one bird made a noise so strange but a forked tail and the way it flew off it was a bird of prey most unusal.
Hello Teresa
I suppose you get stupid birds, the same as you get stupid humans. I suppose your kestrel and Mum's blackbird would get the dunce's cap for not knowing what they're supposed to eat! ???
Wow! Mum and dad have sparrowhawks visit their garden occasionally and it goes eerily quiet until the pair have gone. Perhaps he thought the seed was a snack to supplement his meat diet!!!
;DHi Plocket, yes I did have one and shortly after saw the mice, The bird obviously saw them before I did, so have a good look round something is afoot. :)
