Title: Promoting Allotments4all
Post by: realfood on March 18, 2009, 20:02:43
I wonder if anybody else noticed a "puff piece" by Joe Swift in last Saturday's Times supplement.
What concerned me was that only one website was mentioned for follow on advice, and it was not Allotments4all. :( And there were several inches of blank space under the only entry!!!
I have already written to the features editor of the Times, suggesting that they should have used the spare space to include Allotments4all, and I would recommend that others should write as well to promote our site. This is one way to bring our site to the attention of the general public.
To make your point, go to
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/tools_and_services/services/contact_us/
and choose features at the Times.

I'm not sure I want to be drawn to the attention of the general public  :)

Joe Swift is a garden designer who last year decided to start an allotment and have it filmed for the BBC. He also was on the BBC for an hour tonight.
I feel that it is important to keep Allotments4all to the forefront of the very competitive field of gardening forums, by taking every opportunity to promote it.
To try and get a free mention in a national newspaper, is one way of doing this.

Joe Swift got seriously and at time personally slated for his allotment by the members of this site who like to criticise everything the BBC has to offer.  No wonder he passed over mentioning this site.

It wasn't very nice at times. OK, we could see he was making mistakes, but don't we all?

I think that his allotment series got slated on most gardening forums. You should have seen the BBC forum.

If they've been printed, why have I not been sent one or does Dan think my van is too muddy?

Joe Swift is an OK bloke.  His wife and children are also OK and dig his allotment and enjoy it, so everyone can shut up, or else.  He was very upset about all the fuss about his raised beds, but he is a garden designer and loves his allotment so give him a chance.  A bit better than Alan Titchmarsh on TV with his sex for old people and his fiction books are rubbish.  Think he should stick to gardening although he has been voted sexy, but it doesn't work for me.  Apart from the fact he 'has got out of his pram' his is an OK bloke but they do get an inflated view of them themselves, I think.

This is sort of on topic........

I'm going to buy a new shed and before I press 'buy now', I thought I would check out the ads on here for a shed supplier - not a single one :o :(

Or am I looking in the wrong place?

I think there needs to be a discussion about sheds - the word repeated several times to get the shed adverts.

So its like wishing for a shed and then wishing that the shed fairy would come along and build the shed for you.

Then once the shed been built, I have to decide which shade of brown I want to paint the shed and finally hope that the vandals don't notice the shed.

and I'm looking for one that doesn't cost shed loads of money.

So why when I was accessing this site from Italy every page had an ad for an italian adoption agency ???

I was very confused.  :-\ :-\ :-\

Would you shedding well believe it.  I have waited all week for a shed advert to pop up at the bottom of each page but to no avail.

This afternoon, I ordered my 6x4 pent shed - I want the door at the front so I can survey my plotdom ;D and then what do I find when I come on here.............

Yes, that's right an advert link for SHEDS

How does it work?  Is there a critical tipping point for postings and viewings before the database thinks its worthwhile - but on that basis why does the blinds and awnings ad appear so often - who posts about those ??? ??? ::)

Sorry Dan - I did try tho :'(

On the way to work this morning - past the point where I could easily turn around and come home, I received a phone call to say my shed would be delivered in the next 15 mins :o :o

I had been waiting from a phone call from the warehouse to arrange a delivery date........after a few frantic phone calls, the shed was safely delivered to the allotment.

Now, can't wait for Thursday for the big build...........photo's to follow ;D ;D ;D
