Title: Allotment research
Post by: nikkicole on September 08, 2004, 16:55:39
Hi everyone,

I'm an aspiring author and I want to write a book set on an allotment.  I don't know a lot about them (apart from what I've found on the internet) and would love it if people here could email me to tell me a little bit about why you have an allotment, where it is, how long you've had it for, what you grow on it etc.  I'm also interested in knowing if any London allotments have open days.  My email address is allotments.150.nikkic@spamgourmet.com (it's a mouthful but it's to avoid spam!).

Many thanks,
Nikki

Hi Nikki, don't you fancy taking on an allotment yourself?  then you could "tell it as it is" .  You never know you might get hooked and anyway you can't lose because of all the fresh produce, meeting people and getting healthy exercise!

Never been told that before - noted for "nippiness"!! Or maybe I should detect a wee hint of sarcasm, RoY  ;D  Anyway I didn't "mean" anything just seemed logical to me and much easier than gathering stories on line - on site she would get enough from almost every lottie holder plus all the nuances and details- every one has a tale (or 3) to tell!!  ;)

I agree. :D  Nikki! get dug in with sleeves rolled up and dirt under your nails or you could freely search the archives as the answers to your questions lie there.;D

I would love an allotment!!!  I am on a waiting list but apparently there is a three to four year wait.

I also asked if I could visit the allotment that I'm on the waiting list for to speak to people but I was told that wasn't allowed since I'm on the waiting list.

Oh Nikki my sympathy and maybe even an apology for my hasty overgeneralised remark!  :-[ If you look thru some of the threads you will see lots of epople who have been/are still waiting (Roy is a prime example) some people find it better to "badger" but keep sticking in there anyway it really is worth it - not that I am biased of course......

Think when Roy finally does get his keys we will all be so genuinely happy for him that there will be celebrations throughout the lottie world  ;D
