Title: First pictures of my allotment!!
Post by: Digitalis on March 17, 2009, 17:40:01
I recently took over an allotment, and it's in good condition, all things considered. Tell me what you think!

My blackcurrant bush:

My shed:

The view towards my shed:

The view from my shed:

My compst bin (is this soil useful once dug over, or should I just scrap it?)

Another view:

The bed where I'm going to put my spuds:

What are these plants? Should I bother keeping them?

Hi C&D

Your allotment looks brilliant, recently worked and not brambles etc, well done!  I love your shed, I wish I could have one like that.

Is that raspberry canes too by the red and white posts? Yum.

The plants are snowdrop and lungwort (Pulmnaria) is the blue flower.

Enjoy your lottie... :)

T.

Thanks, Tulipa!

I think they are redcurrants.....I think!

The only job I'm not looking forward to is sorting out the compost bins!

Wow lucky you getting such a tidy plot and with a nice shed  ;D. Looks like it has been well loved. I wouldn't dump the stuff in the compost bins looks like good compost just a little compacted that all !! It will come in very handy.

Enjoy  ;D

Thanks Lucy

Lucky you- that looks like a great plot- nice path and beds all marked out,and not too overgrown.

Get it dug quick before the weeds start taking over! ;)

Will the spuds be fine next to the raspberries?

You've got an easy job there; a quick dig and you're away!

I've weeded and dug over half a bed:

How's that looking?

Once I've dug the rest of the bed, do I just mix in some good quality compost and then plant my spuds?

Looking fine... might cap if it turns dry... so might struggle with direct sowings of small seedlings like carrots and Parsnips...  :-\

I've now extended the bed I intend to plant spuds in right up to the white board at the top of the picture.

Just got to weed and dig over.

I've had to cover my compost bins as someone keeps pinching my fresh compost.

If it is cleavers you need to be ruthless, as the d**n stuff seeds everywhere, and it comes up through several inches of grass cuttings. Pull every plant out before it seeds!

I'm not sure what it is. It seems dead, whatever it is. It's very much like straw.

Also known as goosegrass. It's an annual, so it will be dead!
