The green sausage are currently "missing" I know I saved some last year so they must be in another box... and Ruud is sending me a couple of varieties that haven't arrived yet.... :-X
Wow, not a bad day's work!
Only a dozen of the more obscure ones... but more of our favs like Black Cherry.
:)
Yes I must get around to sowing mine this week.... ::)
Saddad-Do you still do open days?
Yep.. 1st Sunday in June and September... 11-5pm £3 for the NGS...
;D
Take it you are fond of tomatoes then?
Can I please remind anyone who does not know this, that from the side shoots ( the ones we nip off) of tomato plants we can use to make cuttings which catch up very quickly.
Just stick the whole shoot into wet compost in a flower pot.
Saddad, your greenhouse must cover all of Derby
No `moneymaker ` then?? ;D
I find other plotholders "donate" moneymaker to the plant sale... we usually have 30-50 of them left but they don't get planted in the "greenhouse" as the weird ones and any that need growing out for seed get priority... :)
saddad, please, can't we do a A4A coach party to come and see you in Derby !
Think I had better Google Earth, want to see all this going on,
I am too old for 30 odd varieties of tomatoes, but I don't mind watching ! ;D

If you want to organise it We'd love to have you all, as a "party" for the NGS... they keep the cash. I'd recommend just before the "Open Day" Sale in June...
You could even get to see inside DebP's fabled shed...
:)
Bump... for the insomniacs... ;D
As I had photobucket open I thought I'd start us all drooling in anticipation of the summer...

Thats too much information Saddad ;D ;D ;D
Are any of the varieties you listed Beef toms? I tried some a couple of years ago (but can't remember the variety) and they grew to a decent size but by the time they started to ripen they were being eaten - and not by me! I wonder if they need more heat than normal toms, as I grew mine on the patio? I'd be interested to know how you get on with them?

Yes several, Marmande and super Marmande are probably the best known from my list. I grow the big ones under glass... you can see one in one of the photo's with the knife... :)
Thanks Saddad - I think the "under glass" is key with these beauts. I'll see what I can rig up in the garden....
Or polythene... many of the "bush" ones can grow well under a poly canopy, helps keep the rian off the foilage and reduces blight... they need the long season more than the heat... :)
Thanks for the tips, I'll just have to pop out and get some more seeds and give them another try ;D ;D ;D

i have sowed some tomatoes in cells in a seed tray then potted them into 3" pots but i have been watering them from above? is this not a good idea?
sorry if this is a silly question but i really am a complete novice!
It's fine at this stage Mike, it's only a problem when blight spores are in the air..
usually August/September.. :)
"wipes brow" cheers mate
Oh no Derby is the other end of the World ::)
