Why is our plot so attractive to red ants? It isn't the tidiest plot - could that be the problem - maybe the rotting wood that was once an edging for some of the borders is attractive to them.
Do they actually do any harm - apart from biting me all the time?
Will they die off in the winter?
Is there an "environmentally-friendly" way of getting shot of them?
Thanks,
Sarah.
pour boiling water over them.
Sarah, I can empathise, my plot has loads of them too! Vicious little devils,I now carry an anti itch cream in the car!
I have noticed the more that I am working the soil, the less I am seeing them......but they are stilll there!! Think Aqui's idea is the friendliest!! Thermos's at the ready! ;D
I seem to remember someone saying talc they dont like it either dig it in or puff them they should move away? any cheep stuff will do.
Teresa
Hi Sarah
There is a product "Ant Nematodes" that can be used to rid ants from lawns - sold by the greengardener company and 'just-green', mail order company - maybe others sell it as well (google search for it)
Don't know if you think this is friendly ::)
