I am running this with my local freecycle site and this will be the second year I've done it. I'd like to extend the invite to alloments4all members who live nearby.
Basically, its a gettogether for people to bring along their surplus plants, seedlings, seeds, other gardening items and other small items (eg books, DVDs, kid clothes), have a natter and a drink and take away some of the surplus other people brought. Any plants - garden / flowers as well as those for allotments.
Last year we had quite a surplus and some plants went to a local sheltered housing scheme for the residents to plant and the remainder to a charity plant sale.
If you would like to come along, put the date in your diary now and sow some extra items / save those plants you've thinned out.
I will send out the address a few days before, only to those who have said they want to come.
Becky
Oops this should have said Sunday 26th April.
Hi Beckydore -sounds great fun. I would like to come along so will put the date in my diary. Will pm you as well.
Hiya, I might be up for a trip to Solihull, let me know the address please :)
That's ower Tones Birthday so who knows
I would love to come. Do I have to bring something to qualify?
It would be good if everyone can bring something.. no matter how small. There's 6 weeks so plenty of time to sow a few seeds / look for plants to split.
Still thinking about it... :)
Oh one on my doorstep, how lovely.
We would like to come ;D
This is still on this Sunday and we are expecting about 20 freecyclers to be coming. I'm not sure how much there will be in the way of unusual veg etc but if you are fairly local and after a morning out, please put your name down below and I will send you the address. While I would love to meet people from further afield, I'm not sure it would be worth travelling a long distance.
Here is the info I have sent out to the freecyclers.
Please come along with whatever garden and other small items you can spare.
Examples of items that I will be offering:
- Tomato seedings (moneymaker and gardeners delight)
- Leek seedlings
- Courgette seedlings
- Other veg seedlings but not many of each as the rest in my mini greenhouse will be going on the allotment
- Garden plants
- seeds
- Plant Pots
- Hand tools that I have been given for the event
- Books
- A double duvet (used – may be good for spare or for dogs?)
- Some unwanted toiletries
- Other small things I might find before then!
If you can label up plants before you come, that would be helpful – last year someone did this with strips cut from milk cartons. I have also been given some plant labels for the event so can provide extra ones and have some carrier bags. Don't worry about how you present plants - in pots, yoghurt tubs, wrapped in newspaper etc. I am sure people will be grateful for them and I've also got extra pots we might be able to transplant into.
There is a greenhouse dismantled at the side of my house (which I am keeping!) so if you are bringing children please keep an eye on them.
I will be setting up some deckchairs and providing refreshments. If you have said you will bring tea, coffee or biscuits, please do!
If anyone has a foldable table or chairs they can bring, please bring them - let's hope for good weather on Sunday.
