Yes Richard if only!!!, it is a very beautifull tree.  I watched an artist painting years ago & he said trees should look like lace against the sky & that certainly does Richard.

I reckon your one is a Sessile oak (quercus petraea), a more upright type of oak, and it looks stunning against the sky, a lovely shot, Richard.
this one, complete with seats, is beside a bridleway near to us, we sometimes take a flask and watch the dragonflies hawking the field opposite in the summer evenings, as the sun sets, the bats come out to feed there. a lovely spot, and a lovely tree (quercus robur)

That looks a few years old Tony, I think trees are a wonderful thing and hate to see them being cut down it saddens me to think that something that as taken years to grow can be cut down in under 5 minutes.

whilst we were sitting there one evening last summer, an old gentleman came past who was walking his dog. he informed us that he used to sit there as a boy with his grandfather over 70 years ago, and the tree was an old one then!!
yes, it saddens me to see them cut down, but remember, most of them were planted as a crop! (of wood) ;)

I quite agree with you there, unfortunately there are an awful lot of selfish people about who put their own convenience & expense first. (http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/200yearold-trees-to-be-chopped.4208956.jp) <--- Link.
