It's my first year on the lottie so I'm a bit unsure on whether i should be planting anything out yet ? ???
i did two days ago some giant radishes in raised bed which i then covered with a sheet of corrugated plastic. heres hoping :-\
Planning on sowing my parsnips within the next week and I'll probably chance my first lot of radishes too.
I would guess it will be around the end of April before I even consider it, and even then, the weather will be my judge!
I did a bit of rotavating today and clearing up but Ive watched people setting stuff like mad but its only the end of feb we could get more snow!!!!Lol :o
I have only sown stuff in pots for now. As it is colder at this time of year than it has been this past few years, I have only sown stuff in pots for now.
Not yet... :-X
I have only sown Parsnips so far.
I have :D.
i know i shouldnt have but i couldnt stop my self. i have got a row of peas, bean, oinion. theay are in raised beds with plastic over the top.
i dont care if they grow or not, i just had to get something in my allotment lol ;D
The ground is too wet and cold yet(I dont use cloches).
I have my garlic in since September but thats it.Got Jalapeno chilli growing nicely but they are for my greenhouse and not for outside.
Anyway....not even finished my winter digging yet!! :-\
I have put some Onions in today will have to see how they take. I put some fruit bushes in as well :)
I have overwintering onions and garlic in and I am planning to put the shallot sets in tommorrow. In a couple of weeks I will start putting maincrop onions in. I have sown sweet peas and broad beans in the greenhouse. Near the end of March I will probably put some carrots, beetroot, peas and turnips in. I have started chillies, peppers and aubergines for the greenhouse and may sow some leeks in a deep pot to be transplanted out in a couple of months on the plot.
I am experimenting with early broad beans - place your bets. I have planted some in my unheated green house today and have also started to warm up the bed I will plant them in outside - which will do better?
I have also put out some shallots today I know its too early but I just got carried away ;D
Hiya, AmandaC..welcome to the site ;D
our shallots have been in a couple of weeks, in fact they're already growing, lots of people on here have broadies in already, too :)
I have garlic and broad beans overwintered from autumn sowing. As for sowing this year, I have done early peas, parsnip and radish plus planted jerusalems.
garlic from November, shallots last week
I've also sown nigella, aquilegia and hollyhock - I thought anything that self-seeds must sit round all winter anyway, so should be ok.
I planted out some gipsophila roots. And Susiebelle sent me some tiny furry foxglove babies, and I put them in the other day. They look as happy as a foxglove can look.
But maybe flowers are hardier than veg?
Just 48' of shallots, nowt else for a few weeks, when it will be peas and broad beans. I've had garlic in since November, they're about a foot high now.
Still cold here, few weeds showing, they're normally my cue.
I have overwintering garlic and broad beans, have just put in shallots, and have started with potatoes - south east. Everything else is in pots indoors.
just shallots and garlic for me my onions will be put in in a few weeks depending on the weather my onion bed is covered with black poly at the mo to warm it up i am happy with the way things are going
I haven't planted a thing since the autumn. Onions will be going in shortly as soon as I've got the weeds out of their beds. I couldn't do it earlier because of the weather.
Just shallots a couple of weeks ago, that's hardly "sowing" though... speedwell are coming through strongly now, if it doesn't snow this week may try some direct sowing next weekend... :)
Broad beans in one of the more well drained beds,
Garlic in at the other end.
Both this Sunday just gone...
Nuffin' else in the ground.
I have some onions in and put some raspberries in last november, thats it at the mo.
garlic has been in a few weeks. a few potatos are in a pot for "the challenge". artichokes (jerusalem) and shallots went in to ground yesterday when the respective areas were cleared. chinese artichokes were dug up from pots and replanted as well. I have only just started digging my new garden, so this years planting will be peacemeal... its a slow job as a spade depth below is a layer of sandstone which needs to be dug up... its hard work... its like digging up small patio slabs... luckily my partner is very helpful at the hard work!!! ;D
carrots and parsnips will start going into (large) tubs soon, as the ground will not be cleared in time for them
I think I have decided to use the sandstone as crazy paving paths on a layer of sand... otherwise I'll be carting many car loads of stone to the tip... may save me money too... (if the sandstone is strong enough for paths)
garlic and broad beans over winter. Broad beans went in in mid Dec! BUT they still came up and are about an inch high now. Shallots and early onions last week. planning to sow beetroot this week or maybe next. Oh and replanted jerusalem artichokes in around Nov as I dug them up for eating.
Psi
yes this weekend I started some early carrots, radish and beetroot, plus some "Early Onward" peas. The broad beans went in a fortnight ago and they are starting to how.
But we are a bit warmer here than you folk in the UK. It was 15deg C on Friday!!
Put my Jermor shallots in at the allotment yesterday and OH put his spring garlic in. Lovely weather at the lottie yesterday, but hear on Wednesday it's back to winter again. busy_lizzie
i'm still diggin'.......things always catch up 8)
Sowed shallots and peas today at the allotment. Trying to contain myself as I don't want to sow things too early this year.
I have sown the peas in my tunnel thing so am not sure how they are going to do, but hopefully it will protect them from birds and all the nasties

Not sure if the link will work, sorry in advance ;D
garlic, broad beans, radishes.
Was going to plant my onions at the weekend but everyone kept talking about frost and snow so am holding off for a few more days.
