I just thought I'd say hello to everyone because I'm new here! :)
I've just got an allotment for the first time; it's quite scary the moment but I'm excited to get started as soon as the weather improves a bit! I'm a total novice with anything horticultural - my only experience is looking after houseplants, and I'm pretty reliable at killing them off! So it remains to be seen if I'm actually going to be able to grow anything other than weeds...... I'm sure I'm going to be asking for lots of advice.
I know from reading other posts on here that some of you like progress updates and photos and stuff like that, so I've started a blog to try to record what I do on the allotment. I hope it will help me measure my progress as much as anything else! I haven't so much as picked up a spade yet so it's all looking a bit overgrown at the moment.
I look forward to getting to know you all over the next few weeks and months (and maybe even years, if I don't totally suck at this gardening lark!)
P.S. Apologies if this isn't the right place on the forum to introduce myself, I couldn't find anywhere that looked like an "Introduce yourself" section. I'm sure someone will soon put me right if I've got it wrong!
welcome dave! how great you have started a blog already,i so wish i had done that from the beginning,doubt ill ever start one now. congrats on your plot,it looks fab,and not too overgrown...is it a full plot all to your very own self? what seeds have you bought so far? questions questions!...good luck and i hope you enjoy your plot as much as we do ours

Thanks for the welcome everybody. Yes, it's a whole 250 sq metre plot to myself. I went a bit mad with the seeds, and bought loads of stuff on the basis that I'd plant everything and see what grew! So I've got onions of various sorts, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, cabbage, sprouts, peas, beans, various herbs and loads of flowers. I decided I couldn't dedicate the whole plot to food because I don't have family nearby and if everything grew I'd be a bit overwhelmed! Still, if I manage to get anything to grow I'm sure my friends will be happy to help eat my way through it all! ;D

dave,dont worry about eating all your lovely produce,there are many different ways of storing it all,esp freezing x

Dave I'd think about strimming and clearing it 1st, then sit back with a flask of something and start dreaming / making plans.
As to having too much produce - cultivate your friends and neighbours I know mine are very pleased to get a bag of spuds etc
