Title: Raised beds on concrete?
Post by: mummybunny on February 17, 2009, 09:30:36
Hi guys just wondered if its possible to have a raised bed sat on top of concrete? Don't want anything fancy just after the extra growing space.

Any ideas/advice gratefully received  ;D

Thanks Lucy

Yes but you will have to allow for water to run out/ run off.. treat like a very large pot...  :)

I would put a couple of inches of stones/crocks/gravel at the bottom, leave small holes for water to escape at bottom and then fill with compost.

here's a tip if your gonna get gravel from b and q. go for the broken bags as there cheaper plus normaly there is loads of spilled gravel round the stacked pallets. just scoop a load of gravel into the broken bags to top them up so to speak.. works for me. ;D ;D ;D

I would line the inside of the bed with weed fabric which will allow the water to escape but not the compost / soil?
