Title: Pork?
Post by: Uncle Joshua on February 10, 2009, 23:19:38
My wife's favorite meat is pork, as I'm just getting more into cooking I would like to make her a special meal but have no clue what to make, it can't be very spicey and not cost too much, any idea?

I'd need a full recipe and method...

I've got pork chops tomorrow and would love to do something different with them, so any ideas for them would be good.  I usually do mushrooms and fried toms and chips with them :(

I think the first recipe is the best

: how about adding a prawn curry sauce to your repertoire? I don't have an actual recipe because I just do it by eye, but the basic principle is to gently fry finely chopped onions together with some curry powder (I recommend Indonesian for this dish) in butter and/or oil. Then add some liquid, I normally use coconut cream (but have used brandy and dairy cream) and bring to a gentle simmer, finally add the prawns and cook through until hot.

If the chops have skin I usually slice it off and give it a cook before starting the chops to get some crackling that can be laid on top as a decoration.

Serve with rice.

Mick, this Pork Stroganoff is one of my favorites, with a bonus that it is quick and easy!
Sometimes Good Old Delia comes up trumps! ;D

As Barnowl says, slow roast belly is good too.

Sinbad, I often make a Pork and Mango curry with my chops, and a chinese  sticky pork chops recipe which is delicious and am searching for now! ;D

Found it! Can highly recommend this and another easy one, lower cal too!!

If you get a cheap cut of pork you could always make pork in cider. Basically cube pork, put in oven proo f dish, add onion,  celery or carrots (or whatever else you have to hand!). Pour over can of cider and dissolved stock cube till everything mostly covered. Thinly slice raw potatoes over the top (you could layer them with the pork if wanted). Bung in oven for at least an hour, two is better, bit of butter on top makes the potatoes go crispier. As you can tell, this is a home-made up recipe, but its gorgeous  ;D

We've just finished eating pork hock - £2,38 from the farmers market. With onion, carrots and dried peas, home-made stock, half a tin of tomatoes, some chilli flakes (home grown and dried), couple of bay leaves, potatoes, dash of salt & pepper, cooking most of the day.  All for just over £1 per head.  The drinks cost more than the meal.
