i was going to start chitting my first early spuds, they have been kept in my garage which is dark but when i've looked at them a lot of them have white shoots approx 2" long should i leave them as they are or rub them off.
also do you think it's safe to leave them in a shed to chit as there is still a danger of frost but i've got nowhere else i can put them ;D
They need light for chitting.
Dark sheds are a no-no
I'd rub off the 2" shoots, they have time to develop new ones... Is it a wooden shed? or a brick one... a brick one should be safe, a wooden one still dodgy... mine go on top of wardrobes in the spare bed rooms... (son at Uni). :-\
it's a wooden shed, i might try the top of the wardrobe good idea ;D
take off those dark induced shoots, then chit them, in the light . Even if they are a bit shrivelled they still produce.
St Patrick's day is the right time to plant. Easy to remember that one.
