Title: Fuchsia Lady Boothby
Post by: ellie2cats on February 09, 2009, 17:19:54
I have three plants of Fuchsia Lady Boothby, trained up a trellis.  When is the best time to prune them and how should I do it.  I believe I read somewhere cut them down to ground level in February but this sounds a bit drastic to me.  Advice Please !!
Thanks
Ellie

 Hi ellie.
like most hardys Lady Boothby benefits from a good prunning in the spring once the frosts are past, cut down to leave about three or four stems, cut the stems down to two or three leaf joints above ground level.
Give her a good feed and she should start away once the ground warms up.
hope this helps.

Thanks Bob, I can't wait to give her a hair cut but I guess I had better wait a week or two.

I used to prune my hardy fuchsias too early, and set them back a bit.
I know sit on my hands and wait until they are really putting on growth, late March

For me, a good indicator of when to prune, is when they start showing signs of new growth.
