Title: Sky reception.
Post by: telboy on February 09, 2009, 16:19:45
Hi all,
I have Sky as I live in a valley & not much else works - now Sky doesn't!
Phoned up and gave them the number at the end of the 'no satellite signal being received' bar & the reply came back:
'we've had very many calls & I'm afraid it's the weather if you've had snow'
I mean,  it IS 2009 - ain't modern technology great!!!!!!!!

Anyone had the same problem? (signal quality & strength are fine)

Ours used to do that when a storm/clouds were coming, since upgrading to sky+ it doesn't happen much anymore.

Are you sure the weight of the snow has not moved your dish?

I live on the edge of a moor in a little dip and we have always had trouble with sky, rainfall and snow being the main culprits, so much so, that about two years ago I stopped my contract with them, it just was not worth paying anymore and now at least if we loose the picture as we still do, at least we dont have the added frustration of paying for a service that we cant recieve!

Our reception gets interrupted when there is bad weather.  We have had Sky for ten years now but have never been happy as to where they put the dish as we feel it is partially blocked by the roof of a ground floor extension.

We have another dish that we put up and is sited at the front of the house.  We don't get any bad reception on the tv that comes off that one, so we are thinking of moving our main dish round to the front.

We were really annoyed last year as we paid to have Setanta sports yet most times we watched particular football matches, the reception was awful with the picture and sound breaking up.

we never got that far - sky came out - fitted the sk+ box, drilled the hole through the wall for the cable - guy went out back to fit the dish - sorry mate cant get a signal for the tree's !!!!!
he said he could probably find a gap but we wouldnt get any signal when the leaves came onto the trees - only thing they could try was to put it on chimney - but wanted £90 to fit to chimney
told him not to bother - got virgin back in instead with the v+ plus box - obviously not an option everywhere

Thanks for your replies.
Spoke to neighbours & found that they had had the same probs. on Sunday.

I thought, sod it, ordered a sky+ HD box yesterday, as this would be, at least, an improvement on the p*xy thing I have.

"Thank you sir for your order, it will be available in 3 months"

The missus tried the old bloody thing tonight after two wonderful days w/o it, & guess what, it effing worked.
She's happy - back off withdrawal symptoms & I'm back upstairs talking to you lot.
Everyones a winner, possibly except you lot of course
;D ;D ;D

In this area we don`t get a very good reception as I sometimes think we don`t get anything, but does it matter if Del Boy is clear or not I know the plot and the script probably better than the actors. ::)
