Has anyone grown orach & with what sort of results. What is it similar in taste to?
Janet
I have grown it but never eaten it.
I use it as a nice coloured border plant;

Thanks Tee Gee. I thought I'd seen it on GW as a border plant.

Spinach is the closest in taste I think. It's a very pretty plant, stunning colour so would look good in both the veg garden and flower borders as Tee Gee says. It self seeds freely.
I grew red orache last year for salads, and also steamed it as a veg. I think it is superb and have tons of seeds if you want any. :)
Thanks Suzanne. Yes please, that's very kind of you. Can I send you a S.A.E. or would you like anything as a swap. Name it & I might have it.
Janet
Yes, it is pretty, but it is a pity about the taste and texture, all fury!

Furry? I have some seedlings...do folk like it then or is it a smother in a sauce job!
I grew it last year for the first (and last) time. It WAS pretty in the salad though but I have too many other eggs to fry.

It was slightly peppery which I like but not crisp. Maybe the high heat here caused that- it might be different in your zone perhaps??
