Title: Perpetual carnations
Post by: Mushy Pea on February 08, 2009, 13:18:14
Hi Folks,

My Dad has been asking me to source some perpetual carnation plants. Does anyone know of any suppliers?

I've tried googling but I'm surprised that the list is very small.  ???

Many thanks,

MP

Moles Seeds do a Hardy Border mixed (Ironstem) Carnation.  'Produces a brilliant show of colour in July.  Also a good cut flower.  45 cm.'

Many thanks Valmarg I'll pass the information on.  ;D

He seems to think that perpetual carnations are ones you grow under heat   8) in the greenhouse to keep cut flowers all year. I couldn't help him on that score but I knew someone here would.

Thanks again.

Hi, Perpetual Carnations are easy to grow and do not need a greenhouse to survive. As long as they are covered under something like a car port and has the benefit of full light then they will grow and produce lovely blooms all summer long.
To grow you need to take cuttings as they do not come true from seed. Log into www.carnations.org.uk and follow the suppliers link to see who supplies and how to grow.
