Looking at the thread on removing figlets reminds me.....
I have a small Brown Turkey fig tree that has been in a pot for about 10 years and has been sadly neglected really. I thinking of planting it on my sons plot, as it has a wooden fence along one side, which although only about 4 foot tall will be very warm and sunny in the summer. I want to plant something as a screen at the top end of the plot at the side of the shed to give some privacy for the little patio area, which at the moment is directly opposite the next door plots seating area.
The plant has only ever produced a couple of fruit, and I'm guessing that when planted out it will probably go a bit mad and produce foliage for a few years unless I try and keep the roots restricted.......has anyone got any tips or is this a mad idea? When would be the best time to plant it out, early spring?
I'd plant it in a buried builders bucket type thing... like mine on 48-49 Deb... but leave it until April at least.. :)

plant in a automatic washing machine drum, plenty of small holes for fibrous roots, and easyish ( I've done it) to move in a few years time if you need to. I was given a fig and told it was a brown turkey, after 3 years we found out itr wasn't! so, removed it and planted it at the lotty, now got a new brown turkey ( I took a cutting from a mate's tree) planted in another washing machine drum at home. ;)

Now that's an ingenious idea! Would be good for other large plants / trees. Question is where do you get them from - the rubbish dump? Freecycle?
we've just had to get a new one, the inside drum is now a burner on the plot and the outside on is getting planted with a dicentra alba at home, means we can squash the rest and get it to the tip instead of paying to have it picked up ;D
our fig is planted in a milk crate :)
