Title: Fire next door
Post by: coznbob on February 05, 2009, 05:05:33
Have been up for the last 2 hours

Woke up to fire billowing out of the bottom flat next door and 3 fire engines, police ambulance etc outside the house.

Saw the middle 2 flats evacuated, told by the police to get the kids dressed and wait to see if the smoke got too bad for us to stay, all ok with us upart from the fact the 4 kids still up.

Police have taken details, and told us to stay inside, don't know what to do with myself, feel like I should be doing something to help. don't know how anyone is from next door.

Don't know if bottom flat made it as when police came round said he wasn't out yet, then news came that he was out. But when policeman had gone heard them on the radios saying that someone was being taken to the hospital with fireman aiding in CPR.

Whole road blocked off, investigation crews etc here at present

Sorry for the ramble but am very worried as don't know how anyone is.

OK, things slightly calmer here now  ( including me  ::) )

Everyone seems to be ok, man in bottom flat is still in hospital as far as I know, but should pull through.

Road still blocked off and things deff. looking a bit CSI ish. But most important thing is everyone ok.

Bottom flat is absolutely gutted, top ones don't look too good either, the scaffolding that is up at the back could be a bit interesting to get down again as the heat seems to have melted some of it....

Oooh you girls and your firemen, what will you get up to next ;D

Seriously though, sounds a if it was a bit scary, lets hope your neighbour isn't badly hurt. Try and lighten it up a bit for the kids sake, their minds will be on overtime now.

Most of the sprogs are at school ;D

They wanted to go and tell everyone...

Bad news though, he didn't make it.

Will be putting a brave face on it at school pick up, and omit to mention that fact.  It's the rainbows and Brownies made dash through most of this evening after school so should keep their minds of it...

so your on the 4th floor?? might be worth letting your house insurance people know they might want to get a structural enginer to check your flat... Worth letting them know anyway!!!

Hopefully it will all be ok i am sending you good vibes :)

Sorry to hear that.

Might be an idea for you to consider telling them . It's likely to be on your local news, and although you might escape it at rainbows, some of the brownies will probably know and talk about it.

Glad you're ok

I hate to side track slightly, but ...

DO make sure your smoke detectors are installed AND WORKING.

It only takes a minute - DO IT NOW - it could save your life.

I hope things are less worrying for you now.

A sad loss for you, did you know him well ?  :'(

A scary/exciting day that you will not forget in a hurry.

Is there anything 'smoke damaged' that you could claim off the insurance ?

Thanks Cam, but structurally we are ok, We are in a victorian terrace next door, there's about a foot between us and them so we escaped any damage.
