Title: Onion sets
Post by: killerflies on February 04, 2009, 13:05:15
Was given a few onion sets for free in the Garden Centre to try out. (no idea of type)

Do I need to "chit" them if you want to call them that.

I read varying reports. Do and Dont.

Some say, just plant out the sets and others say leave them for 4-6weeks (like your spuds) in a cool light space.

Due to space constraints Ill be trying them in a self watering container.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've never heard of chitting onions, just store them in a cool place while your waiting for planting in workable soil, if theres only a few you can start them off in pots.   ;D ;D ;D

If space is limited, try growing them among your flowers in the borders. I do, it adds to the greenery  ;D
