Title: HUGE cucumbers
Post by: Mrs Ava on September 02, 2004, 18:21:37
Jack has dumped about a dozen HUGE cucumbers by his compost heap, and it seems such a waste! If I ask, I know he will let me take the lot, so is there anything that can be cooked up to use them, like soup for example, or will they be so bitter they really are useless??

Take them anyway - good compost!

Taste - is only slightly bitter? Still tastes of cu? I would still go for gazpacho - we might get some summer to drink it in or it freezes well. And/or Delia's sweet cu pickle - keeps well. = Tim

I think I made a chinese style soup with cucumbers from Ken Hom's book, it was quite good -don't know why I haven't made it again.

This is something like :-

Excellent.  I spoke to Jack today as I 'liberated' one of his dumped marrows and I wanted, no needed to confess before I used it.  Of course, he didn't mind one bit, and told me I could help myself to anything that he puts in his 'waste' pile, so I shall be bringing home half a dozen of them next week.  Will try out a selection of recipes, and of course, will end up going back and clearing the lot!
