Title: Cheap/free recycled bits wanted
Post by: Andy Lay on January 26, 2009, 20:55:50
Having finally started to make some progress this year, I am trying to use as much recycled material as possible.

I am trying to get hold of timber to make raised beds, oil drum and water butts etc

Anyone near to Cambridge/Newmarket able to help me out......

If you have any building sites near you (new house builds), be cheeky and ask for their scrap, they send tons of it to landfill.

Freecycle is fantastic i picked up lots of pots trays cloches and even a parafin heater yesterday :o.

The kind lady has even offered me her lean to green house  ;D Just in the process of trying to see if i can squeeze it in!! I hope i can find a suitable wall to lean it against!!!!  :-\

hiya, andy, welcome to the site  ;D
we used old pallets for beds, old compost bags, cut in half and laid down for paths with woodchip over, we get large blue barrels for water butts from pataks, maybe a factory near you uses them, we get them for nothing, just have to pick them up.
skips give us double glazing units for cold frames(ask first), guttering to grow peas in and  we used old curtain track to make arches over our carrot/parsnip beds..there have been quite a few discussions on here, maybe search would find some more  :)

Hi Andy,
Follow the advice for using freecycle the Cambridge one is very good. Also try Gumtree for Cambridge they have a freebies section and you can ask for freebies as well.
