Title: What to do
Post by: Busy Bee on January 24, 2009, 12:34:07
Just been upto the plot i have changed to for a look around. The lady i 've taken the plot from grew potatoes, onions and leeks all in the same 5x8 approx bed. Now i don't know if i should just dig everything up and leave it covered for a while or dig it and just put potatoes in there like i planned. What do you guys think? ( actually got to speak to people up there today seem like a good crowd).

I would plant your spuds in  a different place if you can.  Plant legumes in the bed such as peas, sweetcorn or even squash.

You still have time to clear an area for the spuds, and they will do well in most soils with a bit of compost or manure around them - they grow fast and help shade out the weeds on new ground, and earthing digging them up breaks the ground.

Like KT says, you would be best to use the bed for something else - maybe a seed bed for your seedlings?
